{"id":2202,"date":"2020-04-20T09:06:11","date_gmt":"2020-04-20T08:06:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.chateau-de-riverie.fr\/?page_id=2202"},"modified":"2020-06-06T15:39:17","modified_gmt":"2020-06-06T14:39:17","slug":"small-cities-of-character","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.chateau-de-riverie.fr\/en\/small-cities-of-character\/","title":{"rendered":"Small cities of character: an asset for Riverie"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\"><strong>The village of Riverie has been accredited as part of the network of \u2018Petites cit\u00e9s de caract\u00e8re\u2019 since spring 2017.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The concept \u2018Petites cit\u00e9s de caract\u00e8re\u2019 was born in the mid 1970\u2019s to highlight atypical villages which are both rural from their geographical location, their limited population, and urban from their history and heritage. These cities, which used to be administrative, political, religious, commercial and military centres, saw the decrease of their urban functions after the administrative and industrial revolutions in France. They lost a large part of their urban functions, and ended up deprived of the population and the financial means to keep up this heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-3\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The project \u2018Petites cit\u00e9s de caract\u00e8re\u2019 aims at bringing together the different players of the villages around the same purpose: the protection of heritage as a lever of the development of territories. <strong>The first action of our network \u2018Petites cit\u00e9s de caract\u00e8re\u2019 is mainly to assist elected representatives who wish to develop their villages while respecting its heritage<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In accordance with the national quality charter it\u2019s referring to, the accreditation committee, which selects and inspects the villages of character, mainly consists in a round-the-table meeting every three or five years during which various players of the community (STAP, DRAC, CAUE, regional council, department council, players in the cultural field, players in tourism, \u2026) meet to discuss the heritage project of the village. <strong>This is part of an assistance process, not a certification of an accomplished project.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to enhance their influence, the \u2018Petites cit\u00e9s de caract\u00e8re\u2019 make their specific features the centre of attention. They highlight alternative and individualized forms of welcome while contributing to the dynamism of the network.
